OLD WOMEN SPEAK In 2010 if you are a woman over sixty, you were raised in a culture that expected girls to be silent and compliant. Because of those demands, many, many women endured, and continue to endure, experiences and situations they have never dared speak of. The intention of the OLD WOMEN SPEAK cooperative art project is to give women over sixty a voice; an opportunity to anonymously express a personal, concealed truth and to join voices with other old women who have been silenced and now choose to speak candidly though artwork and/or the written word. As I write this, I am sixty two years old. I embrace the term old woman and see in it power and freedom, and, yes, it's finite implication. If I don't speak now, when will I? If you are a woman over sixty, we invite you to contribute to this social art project. When completed, this collective evidence of the potency of old women's voices will be exhibited at various public venues. Please extend our invitation to every old woman you know and encourage her to take this opportunity to be heard. GUIDELINES Express in words and/or art (any medium) on at least 8 x 10 cardstock or equivalent: a personal, profound truth you have been unable to face Do Not Edit Yourself. Match your words and art to the intensity of the truth you are releasing. Graphic language and images permitted and encouraged. All submissions are anonymous; there is no tracking system.
